US and EU seek solution for steel strife

In 2018, former US President Donald Trump raised tariffs on steel and aluminum. Now, the US and EU are discussing the challenges this poses.

The EU and US wants a shared solution for the aluminum and steel trading problems in place by the end of the year. They are also tackling the problem of excess capacity – and the challenge they both face from China.

US Minister of trade Katherine Tai and EU commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis outlined these goals in a shared statement after a video meeting last week.
