Suppliers grow orders in weak shipping market

Though most shipping sectors remain strained, equipment suppliers Wärtsilä and Alfa Laval were able to grow their order backlogs in the third quarter, show interim reports published Wednesday.

It is starting to look like deja vu, as the two equipment suppliers Wärtsilä and Alfa Laval publish their interim reports and note that the marine market is challenging, with most sectors strained. Still, there are deviations in the reports for the third quarter.

In the latest quarter, Wärtsilä grew its orders by 35 percent compared to the same period last year, from EUR 287 million to EUR 387 million. For the overall business, the orderbook grew 19 percent to a total EUR 1.4 billion, according to the interim report.
