Halved costs in offshore wind power have prompted Vattenfall to revive its plan to install a large-scale wind farm in the Swedish part of Kriegers Flak, which is located 30 kilometers from the city Trelleborg, reports Swedish media Sydsvenskan.
One reason why Vattenfall has decided to realize the Swedish construction of Kriegers Flak is the fact that offshore wind turbines have become both bigger and cheaper. An investment of SEK 5 billion (EUR 520 million) is being planned for around 50 of the large wind turbines boasting 8.4 MW each. But Vattenfall does not rule out that the current development of new wind turbines could lead to sizes of 12 MW.
