Dong jumps on board the British battery wave

Dong Energy will be the first in the world to integrate a battery storage system into an offshore wind farm, challenging Vattenfall which is also focusing on battery storage in the UK market.

Dong Energy has launched a new initiative for offshore wind farms. The electricity company will integrate a battery storage system into the Burbo Bank offshore wind farm off the coast of the UK, which will function as the intermediary between the turbines and the grid.

The storage system, built by ABB, will deliver a frequency response to the grid to maintain grid stability, said Dong in a press release Wednesday.
