New EU financial regulations could be good news for utilities

The EU Commission has presented its latest draft for new financial regulations of commodities markets and energy trading. Most energy and trading companies will dodge strict requirements.

The European Union has spent many years and resources drafting an extremely complicated package of rules for the financial regulation of companies which trade commodities and energy.

However, it now seems that the regulations contain so many exemptions that only a small number of energy and trading companies will actually be covered and thus forced to comply with various, strict financial requirements.
