German company EEW SPC came out on top winning one of the most prestigious – and valuable – orders for foundations on what will be the world's largest offshore wind farm: Dong's Hornsea 1 in the UK. EEW will supply 116 monopiles for the offshore wind farm, which will boast capacity of 1.2 GW and be the first wind farm in the world with more than 1 GW – making it the world's largest.
The many monopiles will function as foundations for Siemens Wind Power's 7 MW turbines which were selected as supplier last year for the project. The 116 monopiles cover capacity of 812 MW. EnergyWatch has inquired Dong Energy about how the remaining part of the farm's capacity will be covered.
