
Oslo moves to discontinue coal-fired electricity generation on outlying Arctic archipelago Svalbard, thereby planning the decommissioning of the country's only coal plant, the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy informs in a statement Monday.
"A great effort has been made in recent years to assess possible energy solutions. Last autumn, we took important steps in the evaluation of how we can get a new energy solution for Longyearbyen," says Minister of Petroleum and Energy Tina Bru in the press release.
