Bankruptcy at British utility hits 300,000 customers

This weekend the UK experienced its largest ever utility bankruptcy. There are concerns that other squeezed companies could struggle to survive.

Despite the fact that the next five million UK electricity customers opted to change suppliers between January and October this year, small British utilities are struggling to make a business on the many companies.

Six small and medium sized utilities have undergone bankruptcy in the UK this year. The small bankruptcies, however, have been overshadowed by Spark Energy, which marks the seventh UK utility to go bankrupt this year.
