Energy major weighs acquisition of big offshore wind player

Italy's Enel has been in talks concerning an acquisition of Germany's Innogy, according to Reuters. Rumors suggest that the Italian firm also has its sights set on a Portuguese acquisition. A new strategy will increase focus on mature markets.

A major transaction in the European energy market could be underway.

According to sources speaking to Reuters, Italy's Enel has been in talks with RWE to acquire the German firm's stake in sister company Innogy. Enel, which has a market value of around EUR 54 billion, is the largest utility in Europe.
