Interest in building offshore wind turbines was so high, that last year the US state of New York tendered its for lease for an area outside New York City. Now, the state has an appetite for more projects.
Media Recharge reports that the state has directed an appeal towards the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) in the US to issue at least four new leases on offshore wind areas, of which each will accommodate at least 800 MW. This will enable the state to go on and become a significant player in the still-young market for offshore wind.
