Vattenfall testing use of salt in energy storage

In a new pilot project based in Berlin, Vattenfall will test the storing energy in salt.

SaltX is the name of a new Vattenfall pilot project which will experiment with storing excess electricity as heat in dried salt, carried out in its combined heat and power (CHP) plant in Berlin.

Energy storage is an increasingly significant issue. If the world is to rely on wind and solar energy and other non-consistent energy sources, then there is a need to store the excess energy not needed in the grid.
