Siemens Gamesa will not rule out a larger Adwen turbine

In the wake of the decision to wind down manufacturing of Adwen turbines, Siemens Gamesa is left with the dilemma about what to do with a worthless company that cannot be sold too cheap.

Who wants to buy a service company with an entirely unused 8 MW turbine?

This is the question after Tuesday's announcement from Siemens Gamesa to end manufacturing of the Adwen turbine. Just six months after Adwen installed the prototype of its 8 MW offshore wind turbine with the impressive blade span of 180 meters, the owners will shut down its production. Instead, the company will construct Adwen's pipeline – consisting of three French projects of 1.5 GW – with Siemens' 8 MW turbine model.
