Industry hopes record prices will bring more offshore wind

The low prices will breath new life into the debate on offshore wind in the UK, says Dong exec, while lobby organizations are beginning to see brighter days ahead in Europe.

Offshore wind is cheaper than nuclear power.

This has been the talk of the town in the British public, after the tender of 3.2 GW offshore wind resulted in power purchasing prices as low as GBP 57.5/MWh for 15 years. Compared to the nuclear power project Hinkley Point C, which is guaranteed GBP 92.5/MWh for 35 years, this seems to show be quite an obvious expression of what is most economically viable, although it should be kept in mind that wind is not constant.
