Danish wind farm pushes German fund over the 1 GW line

Five years after Dong Energy dropped the controversial Vestas project in the Danish region of Lolland, the farm has now been sold to a German equity fund.

European Energy has sold a newly-minted wind farm near Kappel in the Danish region of Lolland to German capital fund Aquila Capital. The 25 MW farm consists of six V117-3.6 Vestas turbines and an additional V126-3.45 MW turbine was connected in March.

The Kappel project has been many years in the making. It was originally owned by Dong Energy which issued plans in 2004 to install a test project of up to 12 turbines. However, in the beginning of 2012, the energy company abandoned the plans, and the year after, European Energy took over and completed the project.
