US weighs emergency tariff on imported solar panels

Under pressure from Indian and Chinese solar panel manufacturers among others, the US is now considering placing an emergency tariff on imported solar panels.

It might soon be more expensive for US residents to import solar panels. The country is weighing the idea of a protective emergency tariff on imported solar panels, according to a filing from the US to the World Trade Organization (WTO) Monday, reports Reuters.

The possible initiative arrives in the wake of major growth in the solar panel industry. Manufacturing nations including the US, China, and India are increasingly flexing their muscles for each other in the fight to become the leading solar power country.
