What does a supplier do with the electricity from wind turbines if the demand in the electricity grid is not there? Until now, the response has been to either shut down turbines of give away power for free – in some cases, even pay to get rid of it.
However, with the rapid development of batteries there are now new possibilities. That is something Swedish energy group Vattenfall will trial with a pilot project at 228 MW Welsh wind farm Pen y Cymoedd.
