Switzerland votes out nuclear power

With a majority backing both in parliament and amongst the population, Switzerland will phase out nuclear power and focus on wind, solar, and hydropower instead.

The largest Swiss nuclear power plant, Gösgen, will be shut down along with three of the country's other plants.

A majority of Swiss voters support a gradual phasing out of the country's aging nuclear power plants and an increased focus on sustainable energy.

With 58.2 percent of the votes, the proposal was passed by popular votes this Sunday. Only four of the country 26 cantons voted against the proposal.
