Vestas is growing on the research and development front. The wind turbine manufacturer is opening a center for engineering design in the Portuguese city of Porto, which will develop key components for wind turbines, according to a press release from Vestas.
The center will initially employ at least 80 staff, from Porto's University of Technology (UPTEC). The plan is for there to be a permanent location in the area, which will be scaled up by "several hundred" employees when the center is fully operational and running in 2020.
