Although wind power still only makes up 5.5 percent of the total US energy consumption, this percentage is rapidly growing along with the number of jobs and wind farms in the industry, according to a report published by the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA).
The US added almost 15,000 new jobs to the wind industry in 2016 meaning that total employment in the industry reached more than 102,000 jobs. As such, the job growth grew nine times faster in the wind industry than in the overall economy last year, determines AWEA. 2016 was also the year in which wind power surpassed hydropower as the country's largest renewable energy source.
