Floating wind turbines are flying

Floating wind turbines are about to get a boost, with France, for example, striving to put out a 2 GW tender. The potential is huge, writes Windeurope.

Slowly, but surely, floating wind turbines are about to speed up with energy companies hunting for new opportunities and places to locate their wind farms, reports Bloomberg.

The news agency reports that 2020 will see approximately 237 MW installed. The UK is one example where the turbine type is picking up speed. In Scotland, a permit for 92 MW of floating offshore wind has been granted, and two projects have been approved over the last few weeks. In Ireland last Friday, a 30 MW project was awarded to developers Gaelectric Holding and French developer Ideol SAS.
