Germany installed 5 GW of wind in 2016

The German enthusiasm for wind looks set to halt after next year, so German politicians must increase their focus on supporting exports, says the German wind turbine industry.

The Germans installed 1,624 onshore wind turbines with a total capacity of 4,625 MW last year. That is more than a fourth higher than last year's level, and only 125 MW less than the record year 2014, where 4,750 MW in onshore wind was installed. Altogether, 46 GW of onshore wind has now been installed in Germany.

This is according to an annual census of wind turbines (German language) carried out by industry organization BWE and VDMA Power Systems.
