Behemoths could be forced out of offshore wind

There are too many players on the offshore wind market, according to Vattenfall, which predicts that only a handful will endure. An elimination race is approaching, says Dong.

Conglomerate BARD used Areva-turbines on its German offshore wind farm. Both players have now left the market.

Last Monday, Germany officially launched its first ever offshore wind tender. This move could ultimately threaten the existence of some of the industry's largest players  For the first time in a year, project developers will battle it out for the projects on offer - totalling 1.5 GW - which looks set to be a tough elimination race.
