Siemens CEO acknowledges weak wind turbine sales in the US

Vestas raked in almost three times as many orders as Siemens on the hectic US December market. The Danish/German wind turbine manufacturer expects to catch up in upcoming quarters.

Siemens snatched up orders for 600 MW on the US wind turbine market during the end of last year, announced the conglomerate's CEO Joe Kaeser during a conference call after the presentation of the interim report for the period October to December, which in Siemen's terminology marks the first quarter 2017. The order intake was only a third of the 1,608 MW which Vestas announced sold to the US during this period.

"It's completely correct that the first quarter was a little weak," Kaeser admitted when asked about performance on the US onshore turbine market.
