The deadline to secure the full tax rebate under the US PTC scheme ended at the turn of the year. To qualify, the scheme demanded that project developers put forward a small portion of the financing, for example by buying components for the projects they will construct in the coming five years. Now, leading up to 2020, many wind farms will finally begin to emerge.
Vestas is reaping the benefits of the rush to secure the rebate at the end of last year. Developer Longread Energy has announced that it bought turbine components from the Danish manufacturer, "that would qualify more than 600 MW of projects for 100 percent of the federal production tax credit if such projects are placed in service before the end of 2020."
