Dong open to local turbine suppliers in Asia

Siemens Wind Power and MHI Vestas should not feel too confident that Dong Energy's new venture in Asia will mean an abundance of orders, says the company's Chief Strategy Officer. Wind consultant sees the Japanese "typhoon turbine" as a good alternative.

Over the past many years, whenever Dong Energy has placed turbine orders for the company's European offshore wind farms, the orders have gone to two suppliers: Siemens Wind Power and Vestas/MHI Vestas.

So it would be easy to assume that these two companies would be first in line if Dong Energy succeeds in erecting offshore farms off the coast of Taiwan and other places in Asia, which is the Danish utility company's ambition.
