Transmission problems plague Vestas project in Kenya

The construction of the large Lake Turkana wind farm in Kenya is progressing according to plan but problems with the transmission line are posing challenges and may lead to a legal dispute.

The coming Lake Turkana wind farm will not only be Africa's largest when completed, but also the biggest private investment ever in Kenya. It also marks a highly prestigious project for Denmark's Vestas, which is supplying the 365 turbines for the 310 MW project.

The wind farm, of which Vestas sold its original ownership stake to Google in 2015, will be 100 percent complete next summer, if everything goes according to plan. 200 turbines have already been installed.
