RWE launches French onshore wind

German utility RWE has commissioned its first French wind farm, with Norwegian colleague Statkraft buying the electricity.

RWE stands for Rheinisch-Westfälisches Elektrizitätswerk, or Rhenish-Westphalian Power Plant, indicating that the power utility has its roots in the German federal state.

In spite of this, the company has nearly 10GW of wind capacity on the globe, with activities in Greece, Norway, Japan and the UK. However, not until today did RWE check the box for onshore wind in neighboring France.
