New Vestas turbine selected for 2.1GW US offshore wind

Empire Offshore Wind, to be established by oil giants Equinor and BP, has selected OEM Vestas as their preferred turbine supplier. The companies want the forthcoming V236 model of 15MW for Empire Wind 1 and 2.

Norwegian and British oil supermajors Equinor and BP have selected Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas as preferred supplier to forthcoming project Empire Wind 1 and 2.

The projects total 2.1GW and are thereby among the largest offshore wind projects in US waters on the drawing board. Despite this major capacity, the Empire Offshore Wind consortium has placed an order for no more than 138 turbines.
