SSE Renewables appoints new managing director

Stephen Wheeler, until now managing director of SSE Thermal, will now be heading utility SSE's renewable energy business.

SSE Renewables has found a replacement for its managing director of three decades, Jim Smith, who said a few months ago that he would retire in April.

Stephen Wheeler hasn't only been the managing director of SSE Thermal but also SSE Ireland, and he helped build up Irish wind-heavy energy firm Airtricity, which in 2008 was acquired by SSE. Before then, Wheeler worked for a number of years at both ABB and Siemens.
