Ørsted rejects climate critique: "Companies having ambitious plans should suffice"

Most of Ørsted's suppliers are based in Europe, says sustainability lead Filip Engel in response to harsh criticism raised about the company having turbine towers shipped from China to the continent. Although he adds that the green transition necessarily entails a few unavoidable black spots.

It's necessary to take a nuanced perspective of the green transition rather than isolating single elements in the larger plans of companies, says Ørsted Vice President of Sustainability, Public Affairs, Branding and Marketing Filip Engel in response to two Danish turbine tower manufacturers voicing harsh criticism about European wind giants.

The critique here pertains to purportedly large volumes of heavy towers being shipped from China to projects in Europe because of cheaper prices on units made by state-subsidized Chinese manufacturers – to the detriment of climate.
