California approves offshore wind bill

The US state crucially passes new legislation meant to develop its offshore wind industry.

The framework is set for offshore wind growth off the US west coast after lawmakers in California approved a bill purposed with developing the state's industry.

The bill is now set for approval by Governor Gavin Newsom. Before it can be implemented, the California Energy Commission must ascertain how much offshore wind capacity the state can achieve by 2030 and 2045 – and where the turbines may be placed.
