UK drops offshore wind cap in CfD auction

The British government earmarks a quarter billion sterling for the fourth round of the CfD, where solar makes a comeback with up to 5GW of new capacity.

Following the money is always a sound discipline. In the case of the UK's coming Contracts for Difference auction for renewable energy, CfD 4, that means taking a look at the earmarked subsidy pool, which at GBP 265m is higher than ever; or by zooming into the GBP 200m solely allocated to offshore wind – a tripling against the last round.

Several factors, however, make the volume of money available somewhat less relevant for the coming solicitation.
