Ørsted means to breathe new life into onshore wind

The opportunity to handle Irish repowering projects is one of the considerations behind the Danish utility's European onshore wind comeback with today's purchase of an aging Irish portfolio. However, offshore wind is also factored into the synergy equation.

It's been a long time underway. Indeed, in step with the increasing clarity of Ørsted's US solar and onshore wind entry being a commercial success – even more than the company had expected – it's merely been a question of time as to when the utility would launch a European resurgence for land-based renewables.

That has now started in earnest today, Friday, with Ørsted announcing its acquisition of Canadian Brookfield's wind portfolio in the Republic of Ireland and in the UK.
