
Historically, New Mexico hasn't been a big wind state. Whereas neighboring Texas and Oklahoma have 31 GW and 8.2 GW in installed capacity, respectively, the southwestern oil state has gotten off to a slower start. Although the build-out of recent years has brought New Mexico somewhat up to speed measured in effect, with around 2 GW currently in operation.
Now, however, a few more substantial steps are being taken, both for New Mexco's wind expansion in general and for the US-based wind turbine manufacturer General Electric Renewable Energy in particular.
