Ørsted, Siemens Gamesa consortium granted aid for hydrogen at sea

A consortium including both players like Siemens Gamesa and Ørsted have been awarded EUR 5 million to trial a hybrid system integrating electrolysis with an offshore wind turbine.

A new project dubbed Oyster seeks to explore the possibilities of coupling an offshore wind turbine directly with an electrolysis system to produce and later transmit green hydrogen ashore.

The project is backed by a consortium consisting of ITM Power, Ørsted, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy and Element Energy and has just been endowed with EUR 5 million from the EU Commission's Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (FCH2-JU).
