Overall, 2020 has been a quiet year for German offshore wind. The deadline at the end of 2019 for installing turbines under the previous subsidy scheme has entailed exceptionally limited activity at sea. But now the waves of the future are slowly appearing on the horizon in a number of ways.
Earlier in the month, new legislation took effect increasing Germany's target to 20 GW by 2030 and 40 GW by 2040. Meanwhile, initiatives like Aqua Ventus, with plans to establish 10 GW in green hydrogen capacity in the North Sea, indicates potential new uses for the increased generation.
