
The third of three MHI Vestas model V164 8.4 MW offshore wind turbines is now installed atop floating foundations off the coast of Portugal. The facility is thereby online and is generating power for the country's grid, the turbine maker informs in a statement.
The Danish-Japanese manufacturer's units are the world's hitherto largest commercially operated offshore wind turbines installed upon floating platforms. The installation is located 20 kilometers off the coast of Viana do Castelo, Portugal, at 100 meter in depth.
