From 2024, the offshore wind sector will see another quantum leap, as Siemens Gamesa initiates serial production of its latest offshore wind turbine. With a 222-meter rotor and capacity of 14 MW – with the option to power-optimize to 15 MW – the new turbine can generate 25 percent more power than its predecessor and once again send the market leader to the front line of the continued technological race. This with a clear goal that the new turbine must ensure the firm's dominance.
"More than half of the global market is currently ours. And it must stay that way. That's why we want competitive turbines ready in time, and right now, projects for the mid-2020s are being tendered, auctioned and decided upon. We'll be ready for them with our new turbine," says Siemens Gamesa Offshore Chief Executive Andreas Nauen to EnergyWatch.
