Large-scale wind turbines are anything but strange to the UK. However, they are usually placed at sea, while the British onshore wind stock is somewhat smaller, with an average size of 1.6 GW.
That this is undergoing change is underlined by a new contract for the South Kyle project. Here, project developer Vattenfall has signed an agreement with German wind OEM Nordex on delivery and installation of 50 Delta-platform wind turbines with per-unit ratings of 4.8 MW for the 240-MW project. The project is also Vattenfall's nominally largest onshore wind farm in the UK.
