Ørsted chooses 'small' turbines for German offshore projects

Ørsted has nominated Siemens Gamesa as preferred supplier for two unsubsidized offshore wind projects in Germany. Despite the recent launch of a new and larger turbine model, the selection is markedly smaller than the unit initially indicated by the utility.

Ørsted has once again nominated Siemens Gamesa as its preferred supplier, this time to deliver 1,142 MW for two projects in Germany, Gode Wind 3 and Borkum Riffgrund 3.

The order remains conditional pending the final investment decision. However, installation of the 242 MW Gode Wind 3 is set to begin from 2023 with expected commissioning from 2024. The remaining 900 MW will go to Borkum Riffgrund and are projected to built from 2024 and enter operation from 2025, Siemens Gamesa informs in a statement.
