The players have joined forces on multiple occasions – most recently in connection with a major order from Shell-EDPR joint venture project Mayflower Wind – but now they're formalizing their partnership.

Danish offshore service operator Semco announces Tuesday that it has entered an alliance with compatriot firm ISC Consulting Engineers and US-based engineering company WSP.

The two Danish partners will use their engineering and construction experience to provide power substations, while WSP will contribute with its savvy in securing permits and carrying out engineering tasks in the US offshore wind market.

The new partners cite their interest in more efficient cooperation as the background for forming the alliance. The trio will focus on connecting offshore facilities to shore grids as well as developing engineering services for transformer substations, and in this way plan to get ahead in the promising market.

In the budding US market, gaining ground can be achieved by combining offshore wind expertise with native knowledge.

Building further

"In recent years, this cooperation has grown into a strong partnership, and we are aiming to make services accessible for as many customers as possible," says Semco Technology Director Tommy Flindt in a press statement.

ISC Chief Operating Officer Anders Thomsen also notes the amalgamation of skills.

He sees the match as perfectly suited for building further upon IPC's work with substations.

"By integrating local knowledge in the design teams, we can optimally create safe, reliable and cost-effective project design. Our strong cooperation with WSP and Semco has shown itself to be a perfect match on the US market," Thomsen writes in the statement.

Semco and ISC have collaborated for several years on a series on engineering, procurement and construction projects – often in conjunction with domestic colleagues from Bladt Industries.
