Ørsted and Equinor win firm deals in New York State

Offshore wind projects Empire and Sunrise, totaling 1.7 GW, have entered 25-year contracts. Confidence in ITC aid factored in the bidding price, for Ørsted in particular.

New York State has signed agreements on its first two offshore wind projects. Equinor's 816 MW Empire Wind as well as the 880 MW Sunrise Wind, to be installed by Ørsted and US utility Eversource, have been awarded 25-year contracts with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), announce both Ørsted and NYSERDA.

"By finalizing the contract awards for the nation's largest offshore wind procurement, we are realizing the positive impacts these projects will have on the environment, while diversifying our economy and bringing significant economic benefits to the Empire State," says New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo.
