Swire secures major service agreement with Siemens Gamesa

Offshore wind service operator Swire Blue Ocean has sent one of its large vessels into the North Sea – but not to install new wind turbines.

Mid-May, Swire Blue Ocean's vessel Pacific Orca installed the last Siemens Gamesa wind turbines at UK wind farm Beatrice. However, this by no means concludes the cooperation between the wind turbine manufacturer and the offshore wind service operator. For a time, though, it has taken on different characteristics.

In late June, Pacific Orca once again sailed on a Siemens Gamesa contract. This time the wind farm installation vessel (WIV) did not have nacelles or blades in its cargo, rather, it was on a service assignment for existing North Sea offshore wind farms Meerwind Süd/Ost and Galloper. All the while, visits to Sandbank and three other wind farms inhabited by Siemens Gamesa turbines are already agreed upon, with plans for many more to follow.
