The US's wind energy pipeline set another record during the first quarter of 2018. Almost 40 GW are either in installation or under development, the highest level to date. During the first quarter, new projects totaling 6,146 MW were announced – also a record, shows American Wind Energy Association's (AWEA) latest quarterly report.
Specifically, 39,161 MW are en route – 11 percent more than in late 2018, while projects with a combined capacity of 21,949 MW are in an earlier stage of development. Such projects are included in the report if they have entered a power purchase agreement, placed wind turbine orders or if owned by utilities.
