Dominion Energy issues request for proposals for three GW

US-based Dominion Energy will begin by seeking bids for half a gigawatt renewable energy in Virginia. However, this will not bring offshore wind any closer.

Earlier this month, Virginia launched an energy plan for renewable energy. Among other things, it stated that the Mid-Atlantic state intends to join the group of US offshore wind manufacturers with the installation of 2,000 MW before 2028. Besides this, 3,000 MW of solar power and onshore wind should furthermore be either under development or operational from the beginning of 2022.

The latter part is now being initiated. As part of the plan to offer the 5 GW of renewable energy, utility Dominion Energy has just announced a so-called request for proposals for 500 MW solar energy and onshore wind due by Nov. 2.
