UK confirms plans for new offshore wind sites

A new offshore wind site allocation model, in which developers themselves identify preferred locations within a large section of seabed, is receiving support in the UK.

Offshore wind energy developers will soon be able to bid for rights to develop new sites in the UK, with a new round for allocating leasing sites will start from the beginning of next year.

This plan has been confirmed by the Crown Estate – the domains of which include the seabed of UK territorial waters – in a press statement Thursday. This new plan seeks to accommodate the large interest shown by offshore wind developers in being involved with preliminary planning up to the final allocation set to take place as soon as next year.
