Australian Prime Minister abandons climate targets

In an attempt to maintain his leadership position, the Australian Prime Minister Malcom Turnbull has abandoned plans to reduce Australia's greenhouse gas emissions by 26 percent through legislation.

The climate battle in Australia has suffered a huge blow after Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull dropped plans to adopt legislation to limit the country's greenhouse gas emissions by 26 percent.

Australia will not abandon the actual 26 percent target submitted to the UN system, but the government will no longer use legislation to reduce the greenhouse gases as it does not have the necessary majority in the Australian Parliament to pass, announced Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull according to Australian media.
