Germany sets new renewables record

The first six months of the year have seen strong wind, solar and biomass production, so much that Germany has beat last year's renewables record.

In the first six months of the year, wind turbines, solar panels and biomass plants produced power account for 41.5 percent of total energy consumption in Germany. With 113 tWh produced in total, this trumps last year's renewables production record in the country.

According to think tank Fraunhofer, the 41.5 percent share of renewable energy in the electricity mix is almost four points higher than the same period last year.
