German offshore wind turbine manufacturer fires 260 staff

Siemens Gamesa's ill-faring subsidiary has cut its staff by half due to squeezed prices and lacking orders. Looking forward, the company have another role.

Wind turbine manufacturer Adwen has plans to fire 260 of its 480 workers in Germany. The company has been part of Siemens Gamesa since the two firms merged, and it is now beginning negotiations with labor union representatives about the conditions for the layoffs, which are expected to take place in September at the latest, writes Adwen GmbH in a statement.

"The lack of new orders has put Adwen into this difficult situation. In conjunction with excess capacities and the increasing cost pressure in the wind industry, the intended changes are inevitable," says Adwen CFO Hans-Rolf Huppert.
