The steaks are bigger in Texas. Cars are bigger in Texas. Distances are greater in Texas. Everything is bigger in Texas, as the saying goes – and the wind industry is no different. At least, in terms of sheer numbers. No other US state matches Texas' number of installed wind turbines. The southernmost US state, which has a total area the size of Germany and Poland combined, has over 12,500 onshore wind turbines connected to the power grid – turbines that in total have 22.8 GW and account for around 15 percent of the state's electricity consumption.
